View Our CoffeeWe know that you, like us, will explore the very best coffee beans to make the ultimate brew but did you realise that long before the process of making a fantastic coffee you need to think about how you’ll store it first for the best outcome?
At Cafe Du Monde we take pride in being experts in all things coffee but that doesn't mean taking credit for the aroma that comes from the fresh brew in the mug during a coffee break, it means we’re here from the get-go from sourcing the right products, advice when selecting the machine that produces the fantastic brew, helpful training for staff and businesses but also tips and tricks on all things coffee which includes storage. This is a huge part of making sure you get the most from your coffee beans and by the most we mean fantastic taste. Our guide will teach you how to properly store coffee beans.
A fantastic coffee is always stored well. To maximise flavour and freshness there’s a particular way to store coffee beans - but don’t worry we’ve got you covered with some helpful advice starting with making sure you keep your beans airtight and cool avoiding moisture, heat, light and air at all costs. As these elements will spoil the end result of your coffee.
Let’s start with the basics… Firstly, less really is more when it comes to buying coffee so start by buying the right amount as beans lose freshness almost straight after roasting. Smaller batches bought more frequently will ensure that your coffee stays fresh. Next, we know that coffee looks good and you may want to show it off, however, we can’t stress more that light can compromise the taste so avoid glass containers and stick to opaque, air-tight storage solutions. Dark cool conditions are best for storage. If you are going to store your coffee in a pretty container on the kitchen side then only section out enough for a couple of weeks opposed to filling the jar. Top tip: store bought packaging that coffee originally comes in often isn’t ideal for long-term storage.
We hear this a lot and there’s been much debate. But either way you look at it, freshness is key and all experts do agree that coffee should be enjoyed quickly, not left in storage for long. If you are freezing coffee the main thing to remember is coffee soaks up moisture and tastes from its surroundings so be completely sure to use a container that’s 100% airtight.
Now, we’ve said storing coffee beans is extremely important, but storing ground beans is even more so as they lose their freshness and therefore their flavour even quicker!
Essentially, the same principle regarding air, light and heat applies when storing ground coffee, but if it’s ground coffee you're storing then be sure to purchase even less or better yet you might want to invest in a coffee grinder and grind on demand to ensure the ultimate solution - great tasting coffee every time.
Remember that ground coffee beans tend to stay fresh for around four weeks but this is only guaranteed if they’re stored in the right way.
If you’re a coffee lover then you’ll know the difference between a great cuppa, an average one and a terrible tasting coffee. There are so many factors when it comes to creating the perfect brew but before this process can even begin think about storage as this is an element early on that can have a big impact and end up being the reason for a poor tasting brew. Let’s face it no one needs that kind of disappointment on their next coffee break.
